"Maharajdhiraj" Begins Shooting at Sri Lanka Island in Sunsari, 70-Day Schedule Planned

Kathmandu — The ambitious social period drama Maharajdhiraj has officially commenced principal photography. Following its formal muhurt ceremony last Tuesday, the film began shooting in Sunsari, starting at the scenic Sri Lanka Tapu (Sri Lanka Island) — a location that will occupy the production for approximately one week before the team moves on to other scheduled venues.

The remaining shoot will take place across historically and visually rich locations in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Kirtipur. The total shooting schedule spans an ambitious 70 days, reflecting the scale and scope of what director Parichheda Sen describes as a social period drama — one that blends historical atmosphere with contemporary human themes.

Cinematography is being handled by Nabaraj Thapa, and the film's story and screenplay are written by the director himself.

The confirmed cast includes Aryan Sigdel, Ramesh Upreti, Pushpa Khadka, Pooja Sharma, Keki Adhikari, Usha Rajak, Gajit Bisht, Jayakishan Basnet, Mohan Niraula, Dinesh DC, and Sushil Sitaula in central roles, with Hiunbala Gautam, Priya Rijal, Nir Shah, Bishal Pahari, Asha Poudel, Pushkar Karki, Monica Budathoki, Kavita Puri, Srishti Khadka, Kuldeep Adhikari, and Kamal Devkota in additional significant roles. A further wave of cast members including Kamal Gauchan, Shishir Bhandari, Shibu Pande, Hemant Budathoki, Pralinsha Koirala, Anju Rasaili, Sanam Shrestha, Suzen Thapa, Ayushma Giri, Ramhari Khadka, Suwarna Dulal, Anita Giri, Paras Bastakoti, Kulbahadur Oli, Sapana Ghising, and Pooja Budha, among many others, bring the ensemble to a total of over 80 actors.

The film is presented by Biraj Bisht and produced under the banner of Chhattreshwar Management Pvt. Ltd. by Ravi Khadka and Topendra Bisht. Maharajdhiraj is targeting a Fulpati of Dashain release.
